Interesting facts about me

I've been sailing since 1975 and still don't know enough, but I will keep on learning. I've gone from a 14' daysailor to a Catalina 22, to an Islander 30 and finally to a Catalina 42 during that time period. My goal is to sail the trade winds of the Caribbean by 2010 with the Lydia Grace.

    Sailor Dan,

I have a '94 Mk 1 with the same chain bunching up thing under the windlass.  I am considering rebuilding the anchor locker so the chain can drop straight down.  That would make the locker a bit larger as the aft wall of the locker would just drop straight down instead of that silly angled thing the chain stops on.

    Have you any solutions?

I did see a write up about modifying the anchor locker, but it may have been in the Mainsheet Magazine and may not have been a C42.  My concern, since the windlass is mounted in that locker, is weakening the structure such that the windlass could rip out if the anchor became hung up.  But I hate having to hand feed the chain into the locker after the anchor is loose from the bottom as I single hand and must watch my drifting at that point.
